Real Floppy Disk Drive for the MiSTer FPGA - Current Progress

This week I thought I'd bring you an update on where I'm at with supporting floppy disks for cores like the Amiga (minimig) of the MiSTer FPGA.

Did I just create life? Crazy AI Robots!

In this video I'll show you the basics of AI (Artifical Intellegence) using Neural Networks. We'll then learn to teach them by evolving them using Genetic Algorithms and finally put them into several problems to see if they can solve them.

Using a Retro Joystick on Modern Systems

In this video I show how to make an adapter so these common DB9 style joysticks can be connected to a modern PC via USB

Can I Make My Own 3D Printed Retro Joystick?

In this video I attempt to 3D print and build my own retro-style joystick for my Amiga. With slightly different wiring it would also work on many other systems.

How Floppy Disk Copy Protection Worked

In this video I'll take a look at some of the physical copy protection methods used to prevent disk duplicates from working. This is far from a comprehensive list, but these are some of the most common and most interesting. Play with the Simulator

How Data is Encoded and Stored on Floppy Disks

This is the first in a two-part series about floppy disks. In this part I'm going to take a look at how data is stored, both physically and from the computer onto a floppy disk.

Using an Arduino in Low or Battery Power Situations

In this video we're going to look at the basic Arduino devices (with the ATMega328 processor) and learn how we can use it in a low power environment such as data logging where we may be running totally off battery. I show that it's possible to use the Arduino down to microamps!.

My Visit to the Leicester Retro Computer Museum

In the heart of Leicestershire lies a building brimming with gaming history, and on the 27th November I went along and took a look!

I challenge you to count and name as many different systems as possible!

Whilst there I played on several of the machines, took a look around the library of games and mags they had, and enjoyed the nostalgic atmosphere.

Lets Code Santa's Present Drop Game on the Amiga Part 4 (AMOS)

This is the second part in a series showing how I converted an iPhone and HTML5 game to the Amiga in AMOS.

In this video we will focus on improving performance, music, sound effects and the finishing touches such as showing your score, and the title screen.

Lets Code Santa's Present Drop Game on the Amiga Part 3 (AMOS)

This is the third part in a series showing how I converted an iPhone and HTML5 game to the Amiga in AMOS.

In this video we will focus on on hardware sprites and collision detection.
